I heard yesterday about Williams James's Varieties of Religious Experience that James recognized that religions were if nothing else a response to the felt sense that there is something incomplete about this world.
Well since your readers are reflecting on when they first encountered your writing, I will say that for me it was the Incidental Economist during the early days of the Affordable Care Act. There was something about your voice that was different than the other voices on the IE blog at the time (and I liked reading and learning from all of them). I think it came from your work with children, adolescents, and families. I continue to be moved by your writing and the way that you pair it with the art of painting and historical references. I am so sorry you had a month of Hell on top of so many twists and turns. I'm grateful that you are able to share your faith and this beautiful form that it has taken. Every post moves me and helps me grapple with my doubts.
